About
Dear Reader,
Welcome to my blog. I have had an awakening of sorts in the last year or so and decided it was time to put up a new site and chat about things that interest me in a slightly different way. Hopefully the site is kept up to date and full of fresh content, but since I have a lot of interests in life, there are no guarantees.
Since you are viewing my about page, I am guessing you are looking for some information about me and this site. Here goes:
- I have a wonderful little family. I am married to the worlds best wife, who recently blessed me with an angel named Emily Morgan. Most about's (including my former) list family last. Family is #1 (technically 0 for those geeks out there) for me, so it goes first in the list.
- I have been blogging since November of 2002. At the time, I did not really get the medium or the potential, I just wanted a simpler way to write and dove in head first. I am not going to say I fully get things now or could tell you how things will end up, but I now have a firmer grasp on what I want to accomplish via blogging, hence this shiny new site.
- I am employed as the VP of Software Development at the worlds best software company, Telligent. I get to work on a lot of fun things like Community Server and the application used to power this site, GraffitiCMS. We are also looking for people who believe the world can be changed with software. If you have passion for software and are smart, ping me at scottwater@gmail.com and let's see what we can do together.
- I have been lucky enough over the years to be affiliated with some awesome developer groups: Microsoft's MVP program, the Regional Directors, and ASPInsiders. These affiliations won't last forever, but I will always be grateful for the people I have met because of them and the opportunities they have given me.
- Hopefully, most of this blog will focus on making life a little simpler. For me, this involves a couple of areas:
- Family - See, even #1 on the sub-list!
- Books - I love business/marking related books. Seth Godin is my hero.
- Software - Experimenting with Rails/Python, but I am a .NET head at heart.
- Business - helping Telligent get better at what we do everyday and maybe doing something on my own someday.
- Other likes:
- Cooking. I work from home and I am a picky eater, so I get to cook on most days. FoodTV is always on in our house.
- Sports. I will be starting a new sports blog shortly. If there was one thing I would do instead of software for a career it would be something sports related. One step further, college sports. It has taken forever, but I can finally say, Go RU football.
- Reading. Mentioned above as well, but I am always reading something and generally do a poor job writing about it. If you have not read the BigMoo, stop reading this now and go grab it. The only book I have re-read cover to cover more than once.
- XBox 360. Emily has put a mild damper on my 360 time, but once she starts to sleep more regularly and we ship Graffiti, you will be able to find me more regularly on 360 (gamer tag: scottaqua).
- Do you want more content by me? OK, here goes:
- Del.ico.us. I seriously read a lot, but it is not just books. If you want to see what I am interested in more often, check out my Del.ico.us links.
- Twitter. I have my doubts how much longer twitter will be around, but it is a great way to communicate in little bursts. If twitter dies, I will find a replacement.
- Facebook. I do semi-frequently check out Facebook. Not sure how long this will last, but so far I am still digging it. My account is swatermasysk.
A little tacky, but as I have said before,
I believe you can change the world via software much more drastically than in any other industry. You can connect people in new ways, simplify things, and give people more time to do the things they care about.
Thanks for stopping by. If you are in the NJ area, look for announcements about get together's at the HarvestMoon in New Brunswick. If you need to get in contact with me, I recommend the contact form linked above, or drop me a line at ScottWater@gmail.com.
Regards,
Scott Watermasysk
